The curriculum for the four year old classroom consists of ten units of study. Each day has a three part lesson plan. Part one, sounds and letters, focuses on areas such as the alphabet, phonological and phonemic awareness. Part two is reading and response, the teacher reads a trade book related to the current theme and fosters children's comprehension and vocabulary skills. The last part of the lesson is integrating the curriculum and the theme is crossed over the content areas.
The three year old curriculum is a holistic, child centered program that nurtures each child by offering carefully selected and carefully sequenced learning experiences. a typical weekly lesson plan includes circle (Literacy or Math), Group activity (Literacy or Math), Learning Centers, Music/Movement, Second Language Learners, School/Home. Literacy concepts include listening comprehension, vocabulary, phonological awareness, print and book awareness, letter knowledge, early word recognition, motivation to read, and developing knowledge of literacy form.
